Community Grants Program
March 2007 Grantees
Demonstrating the power of endowment, Dade Community Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $644,100 to 80 local community nonprofit organizations serving the needs of Miami-Dade County. This annual distribution of grants is made possible by the wise stewardship of the Foundation's investments and the positive growth of the endowed charitable funds established by donors from throughout the region. More specifically, these distributions represent the Foundation's community grants program supported by its permanent endowment which includes unrestricted and field of interest charitable funds. The 2006-2007 grantees and program descriptions follows:
A Child is Missing - $10,000
To support the Child Safety Education program which is presented to children enrolled in summer camp in an effort to help reduce the number of children who may go missing from their families. The project will increase the skills that families have to keep children safe by promoting communication between children and their parents or guardians.
A Safe Haven for Newborns - $9,000
To support the Post-it Note Public Awareness campaign which will be advertised in the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. The project will bring public awareness of the organization's mission to save the lives of newborns in danger of abandonment and to help preserve the health and future of their mothers.
Adopt-A-Classroom - $7,500
To work more closely in partnership with Dade Partners - a community engagement program - to cultivate this relationship in order to raise additional funds for Miami-Dade County Public School teachers. Funds provide resources they need to maximize opportunities for student success.
Alliance for Musical Arts Productions - $7,500
To provide after school and summer camp services to youth from low-income households living in Opa-locka. Both programs provide a safe, supervised, caring environment for learning and positive self-expression through musical and theater arts classes and workshops.
American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Florida - $8,000
To educate the community about Fair Adoption movement by providing speaker and media training for current GLBT parents, prospective parents and their family and friends on fair adoption issues.
