 American Friends Service Committee - $7,500
To partially support a paralegal to work on the expansion of existing services to the Haitian community through the Community Social Advocacy Program. The program works to secure the rights of immigrants in South Florida through organizing, advocacy and political action.
American Heart Association Inc. - $10,000
To provide valuable health screenings and information to underserved Hispanic residents in partnership with Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Centers. The project will expand the agency's existing education program to add more classes on disease risk factors and provide blood pressure and cholesterol screenings.
Amigos for Kids - $9,700
To continue to provide opportunities for parents, key family members and other residents of the community of the Amigos programs. The organization will hire a resident as a parent coordinator so they can continue to actively participate in their own communities as parent leaders and advocates.
ArtCenter/South Florida - $10,000
To support Art Corp, a partnership between ArtCenter/South Florida and the Miami Job Corp. The project integrates the creative arts into counseling services provided by Job Corp to youth ages 16-24 who are having difficulty completing high school and finding stable employment due to the effects of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
ArtSpring - $7,500
To cover program costs to bring three interdisciplinary arts programs offered in correctional settings including: Breaking Free Expressive Arts Workshops for Girls, Rites of Passages Theatre and Drumming Workshops for Male Inmates, and an Inside Out Latina Expressive Arts Workshop for Incarcerated Spanish-Speaking Women at the Homestead Correctional Institution.
