To send foster children to Buffalo Cove Outdoor Education Center in North Carolina where they live in a wilderness camp and take part in activities that help to build self-esteem, teamwork, communication skills and respect for themselves and others.
Communities In Schools of Miami - $5,000
To support the organization's local AmeriCorps unit which focuses on literacy tutoring and out of school support services including arts and crafts, homework assistance, and computer lab assistance in low-income neighborhoods.
Daily Bread Food Bank - $7,500
To purchase flatbed carts which will increase the efficiency with which over 800 affiliated agencies receive food on a daily basis.
Dream In Green - $7,500
To educate and facilitate school communities to reduce greenhouse emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. The program includes partnering with local high schools to help them become more 'green' by conserving energy, installing energy efficient technologies, planting trees and purchasing renewable energy credits.
DuMond Conservancy for Primates & Tropical Forests - $7,500
To expand a program which provides supported employment opportunities for trainable mentally handicapped youth in collaboration with Miami-Dade Public School's South Ridge High. This carefully supervised program seeks to train youth in workforce skills using instruction in animal care duties and responsibilities for a colony of small new world monkeys.
Earth Learning - $10,000
To create an EarthFest network that will form an umbrella to unite Earth Day celebrations across South Florida under one banner. The effort will allow for better branding and a more powerful impact in getting out the message of working towards a sustainable community and planet.
