GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION TO THE LEO SUAREZ JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
HISTORY- This scholarship fund was established at Dade Community Foundation to honor the memory of former deputy Miami Herald sports editor Leo Suarez and his commitment to helping young journalists. Scholarships will be awarded to help talented South Florida students for aspiring a career in journalism, broadcast or mass communications.

RODNEY THAXTON JUSTICE FUND AND THE MARTIN E. SEGAL FUND
HISTORY- The Rodney Thaxton Justice Fund: The Rodney Thaxton Justice Fund was established after the untimely death of this great advocate for the oppressed and disadvantaged. It is hoped that this scholarship fund will encourage others to follow in his footsteps, and enable those who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to reach their goals. The recipient of the award must be committed to the goal of social justice, and must be able to demonstrate that commitment to the scholarship committee. In addition, the recipient must be a student of African descent and resident of Miami-Dade County who plans to attend a four year college or university, and who is in need of financial assistance. (Five $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually).
The Martin E. Segal Scholarship Fund: Martin E. Segal, a long-time resident of Miami Beach, lawyer and lecturer, established this fund to assist graduating high school seniors by augmenting the annual scholarship granting of the Rodney Thaxton Justice Fund. Students applying for this scholarship should meet the requirements of the Rodney Thaxton Scholarship including a commitment to the goal of social justice. The eligibility requirements for this scholarship are the same as for the Rodney Thaxton Justice Scholarship Fund. (Six $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually) DEADLINE - Application deadline will be April 18, 2008. Please mail the completed application to:

Guidelines
Drs. Jack and Gloria Tuckfield, established this graduate business tuition scholarship Fund as a strategy to carry forward their daughter's vision of improved diversity of career professionals in the executive, administrative, and managerial levels of the South Florida workforce. This Fund provides financial aid to African-American South Florida residents who are enrolled in master's and doctoral degree programs at Florida universities. Students must plan to pursue their professional career in South Florida. To date the Fund has granted 226 awards, totaling $231,000, to recipients at eleven Florida universities. For the 2008-2009 academic year the Fund will grant $25,000 in $1,000 awards. NOTE: Part-time graduate business students may qualify if they complete the equivalent of one full semester of course work by the end of the 2008-2009 academic year.
