Program Department Overview
Dade Community Foundation is a grant making foundation established in 1967 as Greater Miami's permanent endowment to enhance the quality of life of residents in Miami-Dade County. The Foundation uses its financial resources - over $100 million in assets - to support the work of Miami-Dade's non-profit groups in a broad range of program areas. Its flexible resources allow the Foundation to respond to current and emerging community needs and opportunities. The Foundation awarded nearly $5 million in grants to nonprofit agencies. The Foundation has committed its resources to reducing cultural and social fragmentation and strengthening the fabric of the Greater Miami community. The Foundation approaches all of its program activities with a focus on building community. We conduct activities and support efforts that build community assets and relationships among individuals, organizations, and communities that connect people with resources and opportunities to improve their quality of life.
Our philosophy is one of 'Community First.' We welcome the opportunity to work with organizations that have a deep understanding of the needs, interests and resources within the communities they serve, that clearly understand their unique role and contribution in responding to these needs and interests, and they work to form partnerships that can connect the wealth of resources that exist in Greater Miami with those who can benefit from them the most.
The Foundation manages a number of different funding programs and special projects using fund from our permanent endowment and from local and national funders. All the Foundation's grants programs are announced in its quarterly newsletter. We have designed this site to provide you with information about our grants programs, recent grants, special projects, community workshops, publications and frequently asked questions, and scholarships. You can also contact the Foundation's program staff: Charisse Grant, Vice President for Programs, Betty Alonso, Associate Director of Programs, and Gianne Ewing-Chow, Senior Program Officer.
