Scholarship Funds
Scholarship Funds may honor an individual. The donor may decide the selection criteria and participate in the selection process. The Foundation provides assistance. Sample Agreement
Jacki Tuckfield Memorial Graduate Business Scholarship Fund Jacki Tuckfield was an Assistant Project Manager for the Codina Development Corporation when she passed away in 1997. Following her untimely death, her parents, Drs. Gloria and Jack Tuckfield, established this scholarship fund to benefit African American South Florida residents. Scholarships are awarded to business administration or management students attending Florida colleges and universities who plan to pursue careers in South Florida.
Annie Betancourt Scholarship Fund Former State Representative Annie Betancourt established this scholarship fund to benefit the students of District 116. Elected to the State of Florida House of Representatives in 1994, Rep. Betancourt has demonstrated a commitment to education and a strong interest in opening the doors of higher learning to all. She established this fund as a way to give back to the community. The fund benefits the students of Miami Killian Senior High School and Miami Sunset Senior High School.
Judge M. Sidney Aronovitz Memorial Scholarship Fund The Aronovitz family established this fund to honor the memory of Judge Sidney M. Aronovitz. A man of great integrity, the Judge served 21 years on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He was the chairman of the county's Community Relations Board, founder and incorporator of Cedars Hospital, first chairman of Miami's Little HUD, founder and board member of the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged, and a City of Miami Vice mayor and commissioner (1963-66). This fund's grants benefit minority students pursuing higher education.
Suarez Journalism Scholarship Fund Leo Suarez began his career working as a copy boy and obituary writer at The Miami News while attending the University of Miami. He worked at The Palm Beach Post and later became The Miami Herald's deputy sports editor. A mentor to many journalists, he inspired colleagues to, 'get it right the first time, get it finished on time, and do better the next time.' After his untimely death, his family, friends and colleagues began this fund to memorialize his life in perpetuity. These scholarships support first year college students who are interested in pursuing a journalism career.
Rodney Thaxton Justice Fund Rodney Thaxton was a dedicated, compassionate person who made a difference in the lives of everyone he touched. When he died, his friends wanted to do something to remember him and to continue the work he did. They created the Rodney Thaxton Justice Fund at Dade Community Foundation. A senior trial attorney at the Dade County Public Defender's Office when he died in March 1995. A long - time advocate for justice, the disadvantaged and the homeless, Mr. Thaxton also participated in numerous civic organizations and community activities. Friends and colleagues established a fund at the Foundation to support students who exemplify Mr. Thaxton's commitment to justice and community service.
